History

1900: Gabriel is founded born in Cleveland, Ohio, by Claude Foster. Company is named after its first product ‘Gabriel horns’ for horse-driven carriages
1907: Foster is granted the first U.S patent for a direct acting shock absorber; the ‘snubber’
Gabriel continues to dominate the shock absorber industry: 
1918: Introduces the first hydraulic shock absorber
1956: Develops the adjustable shock absorber 
1959: Gabriel markets the first air adjustable shock absorber
1983: Develops the twin tube gas shock absorber
1993: Gabriel designs and patents the unique P.T.F.E piston in collaboration with Plastic Omnium
1996: Gabriel introduces velocity sensitive technology
2003: MMP and ‘Valve all discs’ technologies complete Gabriel’s +3 offer
2007: Gabriel celebrates its centenary and enters into a joint venture with TRW Automotive Aftermarket, a global company focused on providing active and passive safety products, and services to the automotive industry.
2011: TRW completes the acquisition of Gabriel’s shock absorber business, including the manufacturing facility in Bonneval, France. TRW becomes the new owner of the Gabriel brand name across Europe.
